Venture deep inside Europe’s largest man-made ice cave in Iceland — book your tour now!

Why Choose the 'Into the Glacier' Tour?

Until the largest man-made ice tunnel in the world was built, travelers didn’t know what lay beneath the glacier’s surface. This is because the huge ice strip is layered with tons of compacted granular snow, making it difficult to explore. However, two Icelandic entrepreneurs had a vision of unlocking the secrets of Langjökull. They asked top engineers and geophysicists to shape the biggest ice cave the world had ever known.

The typical Iceland “Into The Glacier” tour takes you deep into Langjökull, Iceland's second—largest glacier. Near the tunnel, visitors are greeted by a snowy, igloo-like entrance. Once they enter, they are surrounded by ice walls as tall as 3 meters (10 feet). Experienced and knowledgeable guides lead the expeditions, informing visitors about Langjökull’s glaciology, the glacier’s formation, and many other interesting facts.

Once inside the glacier, guides will lead you through the tunnel and into the ice cave. Its length is 500 meters (1640 feet), with separate frozen halls. Visitors have the chance to marvel at brilliant blue ice formations and magnificent crevasses. The cavern is just as impressive as the tunnel. It has a height of 7 meters (23 feet) and a width of 10 meters (33 feet).

“Into The Glacier” tours are family-friendly activities easily accessible to anyone who wants to take part in them. Because of that, it’s an ideal adventure for both big groups and solo travelers. These tours are also available all year round, meaning you can book them when it suits you best. While minor seasonal differences exist, the glacier cave tour experience stays the same throughout the year.

What to Bring and Important Information

It’s important to know what to bring with you when going on an “Into The Glacier” tour. First of all, warm clothing is essential. Make sure to wear a waterproof coat, warm headwear, and gloves, as well as sturdy footwear, such as hiking boots. It’s important to wear warm thermal underclothes, too. You also might want to bring sunglasses, as the bright sun reflecting from ice and snow can be disorienting.

“Into The Glacier” tours are designed to be accessible to anyone. They’re a fun adventure for everyone—from those who haven’t stepped foot on snow to the most dedicated glacier explorers. It’s also important to note the booking and cancellation policy of the tours. Full payment is required at the time of booking. If you cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, you won’t be able to get a refund.
