Ski Tour in British Columbia

Our 11-day tour takes you to four of the best mountain resorts along the glorious Powder Highway famed for some of the deepest snow in North America.We’ll explore charming towns near the resorts and soak in hot springs whenever we have a chance. During trips between the resorts, we’ll drive past the most beautiful natural sights of BC, including the Three Valley Gap, the Valley of a Thousand Peaks, and Roger’s Pass.

Day 1: Pick Up in Kelowna

We’ll meet you in Kelowna in the afternoon. Depending on your preferences, we can meet you at your hotel, bus station or pick you up from the airport. After we all get to know each other a little, we’ll hop in the van and hit the road.

The drive up North to our first stop, the rustic mountain town Revelstoke, takes around 2 hours. We’ll drive along the cliff-lined highway and pass some shimmering Alpine lakes. The road takes us through Three Valley Gap, a heritage ghost town that was once a vibrant place full of gold seekers. The short-lived gold rush left the town with plenty of abandoned buildings and a ghostly vibe.

Once we arrive in Revelstoke, you’ll have time to get settled in the hotel. Afterward, we’ll all hit the town for dinner. Otherwise, you can choose to explore the charming town on your own.

Days 2 and 3: Revelstoke Mountain Resort

Fuel up with a hearty breakfast ahead of an active day at the Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Revelstoke boasts the longest lift-served vertical descent in North America, with an outstanding 5,620 ft (1,713 m) vertical! It’s also the only resort in the world that offers lift, cat, backcountry, and heli-skiing from just one base.

The Revelstoke Mountain Resort features over 3,000 acres of high alpine bowl-shaped valleys, gladed and groomed terrains. Look around as you slide down to appreciate the scenic views of Begbie Glacier, Arrow Lakes on the Columbia River, and rolling tree lines.

After you’ve had enough skiing for one day, we’ll head back to town for a tasty dinner.

On the second day of the tour, before bedtime, come along on an outing to the other side of the Upper Arrow Lake and soak in Halcyon Hot Springs that warm up to 104°F (40°C). Relax in the hot pools under the starry sky and recharge before another adventurous day.

Days 4 and 5: Kicking Horse Mountain Resort

For the next two days, we’ll test the snow at the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort that features the diverse slopes of the Purcell Mountain Range. With over 120 trails on nearly 3,500 acres of skiing ground, the place welcomes skiers with all levels of experience.

The slopes here are covered in light, fluffy and dry snow, the so-called “Champagne Powder.” The region gets an average of 60 ft (18 m) of this snow every season, making it a genuine paradise for winter sports enthusiasts.

Take the Golden Eagle Express gondola to the top of the Kicking Horse and enjoy impressive 360-degree-views of the snowy peaks on your way up. If you think that it cannot get any better, just wait — the views from the top are jaw-dropping. Look around and see five national parks, dotted with glaciers, lakes, and rivers.

Relax at the famous Eagle’s Eye, the highest restaurant in Canada, located 7,700 ft (2,350 m) high and enjoy excellent dining with exceptional views.

Day 6: Road Trip to Nelson

We’ll hit the road and move south through the Valley of a Thousand Peaks, or Rocky Mountain Trench. Rumour has it, the trench is so big that you can see it from the Moon!

During our short road trip, we’ll stop for a soak in the Lussier Hot Springs. Located right next to the Whiteswan River, the hot springs are completely natural and the perfect way to relax your muscles after all the skiing. We promise that the views of the river and the gorge around the springs will not disappoint!

We continue through Cranbrook and head towards Kootenay Pass, one of the highest roads in the country.

By the evening, we reach Nelson, also known as “The Queen City.” It gets its name from the restored heritage architecture from its glory days during the silver rush — the silver-mining equivalent of the gold rush. Although there are only around 10,000 residents in the town, it has almost 80 restaurants and bars, as well as loads of cafes and shops.

We’ll spend three nights in this charming town, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities for culinary exploration!

Days 7 and 8: Whitewater Ski Resort and Ainsworth Hot Springs

On days 7 and 8, we’ll head to the Whitewater Ski Resort for world-class steep tree skiing! Whitewater’s highlight is the is 7,874-ft (2,400-m) high Ymir Mountain, part of the Selkirk Mountain range.

Dry and fluffy powder snow is not the only thing that attracts skiers to this resort. If you’ve been wondering where finest ski resort food is, Whitewater is your answer. Spoil your taste buds at 5,400 ft (1,645 m) at the world-famous Fresh Tracks Cafe. The place is a true foodie’s paradise with fresh and wholesome meals that are so good they were honored in four internationally bestselling cookbooks!

By this point, you’ll know what a pleasure it is to soak in hot water pools after an active day of skiing. Relax your body in mineral-rich water of the Ainsworth Hot Springs in the heart of the Kootenay Mountain range and prepare yourself for the last two days of skiing.

Days 9 and 10: Red Mountain Ski Resort

Early in the morning, we’ll leave Nelson and head towards Rossland, our home for the next couple of days.

The sooner we arrive, the more time we’ll have to hit Red Mountain, one of the oldest ski hills in North America with a ski club that dates back to the 1900s. Part of the Monashee Mountain range, the Red Mountain Ski Resort is often described as the beast of the mountain skiing scene. Whatever direction you ski down from the chair, you’ll always arrive at a chair for your next lift! You’ll have plenty of fun sliding down, past tight trees, massive pillows, cliff lines, chutes, open ridges or some playful, easy groomers.

The Red Mountain has been repeatedly rated one of the best freeride resorts in Canada, and you’ll see why. Try out some brand new skiing areas, as the Red Mountain Ski Resort recently added 1,600 acres of skiable terrain on Mt Grey.

There’s cold beer and hot food available right at the bottom of the slopes, so you can always take a break, stretch your legs and just chill.

Day 11: Back to Kelowna

We’ll grab some breakfast and make our way to the van because today we’re heading back to Kelowna. The trip will take around five hours and you’ll be dropped off at your hotel.

Expect to be at your hotel, the bus station or at the airport by 2 pm today and plan your departures accordingly.

Our 9-day adventure will take you to three famous alpine resorts with exciting runs and outstanding views. Make the most of your holiday and enjoy exceptional dining opportunities, that are located right by the slopes! Soak in natural hot pools, visit local shops and frequent boutiques at historic villages. This tour has it all!

Our guides are experienced skiers from local regions and know the mountains like the back of their hands. They’ll show you secret spots that are less known to tourists, so you can enjoy the best of BC like a local!

On this tour, you can choose to finish the trip a day early and depart from Nelson at the end of day 8.

Day 1: Kelowna

Today we’ll meet you in Kelowna at your hotel. We’ll have a short briefing and all get to know each other before we hop in the van and make our way up north. We’ll drive for around 2 hours until we reach our first destination Revelstoke, located on the banks of the Columbia River.

Revelstoke is the perfect spot for winter sports as it holds the Canadian record for the snowiest winter in recorded history. During the winter of 1971-72, 80 ft (2,447 cm) of snow fell on Mt. Copeland just outside Revelstoke. The snow was higher than many rooftops in the town! There’s significantly less snow in the area than 50 years ago, but there’s just enough for great skiing and snowboarding adventures.

Once you’re settled in the hotel, we’ll meet up for a group dinner in town. However, you’re welcome to explore the town on your own, if you prefer.

Days 2 and 3: Revelstoke Mountain Resort and Halcyon Hot Springs

Let the skiing adventure begin! After a hearty breakfast, we’ll hit the slopes at the Revelstoke Mountain Resort on Mountain Mackenzie.

Prepare for a serious adrenaline rush, as the resort features the longest vertical drop of any ski resort in North America at 5,620 ft (1713 m). However, if you prefer something less extreme, Revelstoke has it too! It features an endless variety of chutes, headwalls, pillow lines, and rolling tree lines. Scenic views of the Begbie Glacier and mountain peaks will follow you throughout the entire ski ride.

At the end of the second day, you’ll have a great chance to relax your muscles and soak in a hot spring pool. We’ll take a ferry to the other side of the Arrow Lake and spend the evening in the famous Halcyon Hot Springs that warm up to 104°F (40°C).

Days 4 and 5: Kicking Horse Alpine Resort

After a delicious breakfast, we hit the road and make our way to Golden. The road will take us through Roger’s Pass in Glacier National Park. It’s one of the greatest mountain crossings on the Trans-Canada Highway with five long avalanche tunnels and towering peaks.

Hit the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and take a second to absorb the priceless views of the neighboring Canadian Rockies. One of the lift lines, the high-speed Golden Eagle Express gondola, will take you up the Eagle’s Eye Restaurant that features exceptional views of the surrounding mountain peaks.

20% of the Kicking Horse terrain is designed for beginners, but experienced skiers will not be bored here either. The resort is known for or its abundance of steep, gnarly chutes, pillowy bowls, and tree runs. The runs for advanced skiers make up almost half of all the tracks at the Kicking Horse Alpine Resort.

Day 6: Road Trip and Nelson

Today is a rest day, so you can sleep in and relax. Once you’re up and ready, we’ll drive south through the Valley of a Thousand Peaks, a massive a 1000-mile long rift valley, also known as the Rocky Mountain Trench.

On our way, we’ll stop for a dip in the Lussier Hot Springs. The natural springs are located in a rock pool on the side of Whiteswan River. Its mineral-rich waters are believed to have medicinal features and it helps to relax the muscles, so sit back and enjoy this well deserved treat.

We’ll carry on through Cranbrook and head west for Kootenay Pass, also known as the Kootenay Skyway, the most elevated highway in British Columbia.

Our next stop is Nelson, a town with roughly 10,000 people and 80 bars and restaurants, which is more per capita than San Francisco! Not to mention countless shops, unique boutiques, and cozy cafes that you’ll have a chance to visit. We’ll stay in Nelson for three nights, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to explore this charming town.

Days 7 and 8: Whitewater Mountain Resort

Enjoy the last days of skiing in the Whitewater Mountain Resort in the Selkirk Mountains. Whitewater features rugged, snowy slopes, and is also renowned for its steep runs and tree skiing. On the first days of the tour, it would’ve seemed challenging to ski between the trees, but by now, you’ll be excited to try it!

Whitewater is a dream come true for food-loving winter sports enthusiasts. At 5,400 ft (1,645 m) visit the world-famous Fresh Tracks Cafe that serves fresh and wholesome meals. The food is so good that the creative team at the cafe has published four internationally bestselling cookbooks!

If you prefer to have your break at the bottom of the slopes, grab a drink and try out local dishes at Jackson's Hole or Library Lounge. Lean back and watch the fellow skiers and snowboarders rip the runs apart!

On day 8, you have an option to catch a bus or a flight from Nelson and end your adventurous holiday here.

Day 9: Departure Day

Sleep in and relax, as your ski trip of a lifetime is coming to an end. Reward yourself with a tasty breakfast!

You can choose to stroll around Nelson and explore the myriad of local cafes and shops. Once you’re ready, hop on a shuttle bus back to Kelowna, or take a shuttle to Spokane International Airport.

Day 1: Kelowna Pick Up

Today, we’ll meet you at your hotel. After a short briefing, we’ll hop in the van and head north. It’s a two-hour drive to our first stop, the rustic mountain town of Revelstoke.

On our way there, we’ll drive along the cliff-lined highway and see some shimmering lakes. We’ll pass the Three Valley Gap, a heritage ghost town that was once a vibrant place full of gold seekers. The short-lived gold rushes’ legacy to the town are abandoned buildings and a ghostly vibe. The Three Valley Lake Chateau features a 200-room hotel on the shore of the lake that bears the same name.

Once in Revelstoke, you’ll have time to settle in the hotel. We’ll all meet for a team dinner, but you can opt out and discover the town at your own speed.

Day 2 and 3: Revelstoke Mountain Resort

Fill yourself up with a hearty breakfast and get your skis ready, because today we hit the slopes!

The Revelstoke Mountain Resort is one of the most recent major ski areas opened in the country. Located in the Kootenay Rockies of British Columbia, the resort opened in 2007. It has the largest continuous vertical drop in North America, at 5,620 ft (1,713 m), also known as “vertical feet” among the skiers. Revelstoke features four high-alpine bowls, 13 gladed (treed) areas, and 69 named runs, with the longest one reaching almost 10 mi (16 km)! Safe to say, you’ll have plenty of space to ski here.

After an adventurous day, we’ll have dinner in town. Later, join us for a small outing to the other side of Arrow Lake. Here you’ll have a chance to soak in Halcyon Hot Springs under the swirling night sky. What a way to relax!

Day 4 and 5: Kicking Horse Mountain Resort

Time to say goodbye to Revelstoke as we head towards our next stop, Golden. We’ll head through Roger’s Pass, one of the greatest mountain crossings on the Trans-Canada Highway with five long avalanche tunnels and towering peaks.

Once we arrive, we’ll make our way to the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Take a high speed gondola to the top of Kicking Horse and enjoy bird’s eye views of the surrounding mountain peaks. The gondola will take you to a great restaurant at the top of the mountain that offers not only tasty food but also panoramic views of the neighboring Rocky Mountains.

Make the most out of our last skiing day and hit all the steep, gnarly chutes, tight tree runs, and pillowy bowls that Kicking Horse has to offer. Once you’ve had enough, relax in one of the local cafes and simply enjoy the stunning views of Canadian nature.

Day 6: Hot Springs, Cranbrook, and Nelson

On our last day, we’ll drive south through the Valley of a Thousand Peaks, a massive 1000-mile long rift valley, also known as the Rocky Mountain Trench. It’s said to be so big you can see it from space!

On our way, we’ll stop for a dip in the Lussier Hot Springs. Located right by the Whiteswan River, the hot springs are completely natural and the perfect place to relax your muscles after all the skiing. The views of the river and the gorge around the springs will not disappoint.

We’ll carry on through Cranbrook. You have an option to leave here, and we can drop you off at your hotel or Cranbrook Airport by 2:30 pm.

Our next stop will be Nelson, a town with roughly 10,000 people and 80 bars and restaurants, which is more per capita than San Francisco! In Nelson, we can drop you off at your hotel and you can take a shuttle bus to Kelowna or Spokane Airport the next morning.

• The pickup location is your hotel in Kelowna, but you can choose where you’d like us to drop you off after the tour. You can plan your departure from Cranbrook, Kelowna or Spokane.
