6-Day Iceland Ring Road & 2026 Total Solar Eclipse Tour

The adventure begins with morning pickup in Reykjavík, followed by a journey into Iceland’s interior along the famous Golden Circle route. The first stop is Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where visitors can walk between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates and explore the historical site of Iceland’s ancient open-air parliament, Althingi. 

Next is the Geysir Geothermal Area, home to bubbling mud pots, steaming vents, and Strokkur—an active geyser that erupts every few minutes. The final Golden Circle highlight is Gullfoss, the powerful “Golden Falls,” where sunny conditions often create vivid rainbows arching over the canyon. 

The journey then continues south through some of Iceland’s most dramatic summer landscapes. Along the way, guests will visit two iconic waterfalls—Seljalandsfoss, where it’s possible to walk behind the cascading water, and Skógafoss, with panoramic views available from the staircase beside the falls. 

The day wraps up with a visit to Reynisfjara black sand beach, famous for its basalt columns and Reynisdrangar sea stacks. The night is spent at a charming countryside hotel near the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

Day 2 begins with a drive past the immense Mýrdalsjökull glacier, beneath which lies the infamous Katla volcano. The route then crosses the Eldhraun lava field—a vast, moss-covered expanse shaped by one of the largest lava flows in recorded history, the 1783 eruption of Laki. 

The journey continues into Vatnajökull National Park, home to Europe’s largest glacier. This protected region covers 14% of Iceland and features dramatic contrasts: towering ice caps, rugged valleys, and lush areas like Skaftafell. Here, participants will join a glacier hike led by an experienced guide, exploring deep crevasses, striking ice formations, and the glacier’s vivid blue ice. 

Later in the day, you will visit Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, a breathtaking sight where massive icebergs drift across Iceland’s deepest lake. Just beyond the lagoon, icebergs wash ashore on the black sands of Diamond Beach, creating a surreal scene of glistening ice scattered like jewels across the shore. 

The day concludes with an overnight stay in comfortable accommodations in Southeast Iceland, surrounded by the quiet grandeur of the region’s glacial landscapes.

The journey continues along the Eastfjords, a stretch of coastline known for its dramatic cliffs, narrow inlets, and quiet fishing villages tucked between sea and mountains. This part of Iceland sees fewer visitors, which means more space, more calm, and often a few curious reindeer roaming the hills. 

The first stop is Djúpivogur, a traditional village with colorful old houses and views of a nearby pyramid-shaped mountain that seems made for photos. From there, the road winds through deep fjords and past waterfalls before heading inland to Lake Lagarfljót—famous not just for its calm beauty, but also for the legend of a mysterious lake creature said to live in its depths. Just nearby is Egilsstaðir, the main town in East Iceland. 

The day ends at the Wilderness Center, a one-of-a-kind destination perched right on the edge of the highlands. Arriving feels like stepping into a time capsule—guests cross an old wooden bridge to reach restored farmhouses filled with stories and artifacts. You will have free access to the museum exhibitions, filled with stories and artifacts from Iceland’s past. After a home-cooked dinner, a soak in the traditional stone-built hot spring bathhouse is the perfect way to end the day!

Day 4 begins with a drive through the barren, otherworldly landscapes of Iceland’s interior as the journey heads north. The first stop is Stuðlagil Canyon—an absolute standout of the day and one of Iceland’s most impressive formations. Towering basalt columns line both sides of a vivid turquoise river, creating a surreal landscape that feels almost too perfect to be real. It’s become a top photo stop for a reason! 

Next is Námaskarð, a steaming, colorful geothermal field where boiling mud pots and fumaroles bubble beneath red, yellow, and orange hills. The sulfur in the air is unmistakable, but the surreal scenery is worth it. 

From there, the road leads to the Lake Mývatn region, one of Iceland’s richest natural areas. Surrounded by lava fields and wetlands, the lake is a haven for birdlife, strange rock formations, and geothermal activity. You can choose an optional visit at the Mývatn Nature Baths—sometimes called the “Blue Lagoon of the North.” Soak in warm, mineral-rich water and enjoy steam baths for a full geothermal experience! 

The group will then explore Dimmuborgir, also known as the “Dark Fortress”—a maze of lava pillars, caves, and tunnels with folklore to match. It’s said to be home to trolls and Iceland’s thirteen Yule Lads, and your guide will share the stories behind these strange formations! 

The day ends at Goðafoss, the “Waterfall of the Gods,” known for its elegant horseshoe shape and historical ties to Iceland’s religious shift from Norse mythology to Christianity. After a full day of geothermal and geological marvels, the journey concludes in Akureyri, the charming capital of the north, where the group will stay overnight. 

Please note: Road conditions can sometimes affect access to Stuðlagil Canyon. In the event that a visit isn’t possible, an alternative stop will be included. The itinerary is always adjusted with guest experience and safety in mind.

The day starts with an unforgettable whale-watching tour in Eyjafjörður, Iceland’s longest fjord. Known for calm waters and rich marine life, this area is one of the best places in the country to spot whales up close. Humpbacks, minke whales, and dolphins are frequent visitors—and with sightings nearly guaranteed, there’s a good chance they’ll make an appearance. Keep your camera ready, and in summer, look out for puffins skimming the waves.

Back on land, the journey continues north to Siglufjörður—a colorful fishing village surrounded by steep mountains and packed with character. Once the herring capital of Iceland, its lively past still lingers in the old harbor and historic buildings, now part of one of the most charming towns in the north. 

From there, the route circles Tröllaskagi, the Troll Peninsula. The coastline here is dramatic, winding past cliffs, fjords, and quiet valleys that feel completely untouched. It’s one of the most scenic drives in the country and a chance to see Iceland’s remote northern beauty up close. 

The road leads through peaceful farming regions and into Skagafjörður, a wide fjord steeped in legend. By evening, the group arrives in Laugarbakki for the night, surrounded by calm countryside and endless summer skies.

Today is what the whole journey has been leading toward—the 2026 total solar eclipse. But unlike travelers who fly in just for a few minutes of skywatching, you’ve already spent days circling glaciers, waterfalls, lava fields, and black sand coasts. Now, you’re in the perfect place to witness something unforgettable. 

In the morning, the group sets off toward West Iceland or the Snæfellsnes Peninsula—right within the path of totality. The exact viewing spot will be chosen by your expert guide on the day, based on the best local weather and visibility forecasts. The goal: the clearest skies and the most dramatic setting possible. 

Then comes the eclipse. The Moon moves into place. The sky darkens. Shadows sharpen. For just over two surreal minutes, the Sun disappears completely, revealing the glowing solar corona. The world goes quiet. It’s a rare, powerful moment—and you’re right in the middle of it! 

After the eclipse, there’s time to celebrate and take in the last views of Iceland’s raw landscapes. The group will return to Reykjavík or Borgarnes by evening, wrapping up a once-in-a-lifetime trip under the kind of sky you never forget.

Guests will be collected from their hotel or a designated nearby meeting point in Reykjavík. You can find available pickup locations here. Pickup begins at 8 a.m. and can last up to 30 minutes, depending on your location. A short wait may occur while other passengers are being picked up. 

• The Mývatn Nature Baths are not part of the tour packages and must be booked separately as an optional add-on.
• Solo travelers wishing for a private room should select the single room supplement. Otherwise, they may be paired with another solo traveler of the same gender.  
• Depending on weather conditions, we may need to alter which glaciers or glacier outlets are visited on this tour. Possible glacier outlets include Svínafellsjökull, Falljökull, and Sólheimajökull, each offering stunning scenery.
• Hotels along the tour route may vary during your trip.
• You can rent sturdy hiking boots, a waterproof jacket, and pants when booking your tour. These items must be reserved in advance, as they are not available for rent on-site.
